New Blog!

Finally, my blog is up and running, and not looking too bad if i do say myself, although it did take me a little while to figure out how to customize (damn you small brain)
but here i am posting ready to tell you all about my exciting photography goings on!
(she says in hope)
well firstly.. who am i?
Je m'appelle Rachel Abraham, 17 and studying photography at A-level in Cambridge (england, greatbritain, europe, world, universe, solarsystem blah blah) and i LOVE it.

now that thats out of the way, i'll tell you a little bit about what im trying to do, well i love photography (who doesnt, its getting harder to run a business gah) apologies for typos.. this keyboard doesnt like me.

when i first started out i mainly specialised in landscapes, around the fen area wherever my tiny bike would take me, and later on moved on to some portraits and a few random things, im not into abstract that much, but i'll show you a good abstract photograph which happens to be my best friend (how convenient) www.flickr.com/photos/willspeak well anyway and started to use studio settings.. well i tried, damn those tungsten lights getting hot too quickly, i think ive burnt my hand off. ANYWAY and from then on.. it all kicked off!
I got an A in AS Level photography (hell yeah) but now i need to work my little head off to get an A at a-level (eeek) which really convinced me to get serious about my photography, so well.. I did :)

I started to put together a portfolio... (a little handbag sized one for you girlies its great) of all my work so that i could actually show people what i did instead of just telling them.. and then them asking to see some work and me having to pull a face (oh NOOO) but now YAY, which has given me a fab chance to get feedback on my photos (which its worked) and even sell a couple of prints! (nice work rachel)

My sixth form gave us some information about some competitions (well 2) and to my suprise gasps i won both! for my age category, my mum cried, I couldnt believe it, 2 competitions! This will be the start of something new *sings high school musical* SOooooooooooooo The college were very pleased with me (i think they were more pleased than i was :P)

The first competition i entered was... 'Fens through a Lens'
which my awesome teacher andrea norrington http://www.andrea-norrington.com/ persuaded me to enter, my sixth form went on a workshop with (oh god whats his name..this isnt good..wait..) CHRIS GOMMERSALL there we go.. is that how you spell his name? oh dear.. (sorry chris gommersall) and he showed us his work and then took us round lakenheath fen (well we didnt get very far but still yay) annnnnnnnnnnnnd then yay letter of winning etc and went to the exhibition prize winners evening at the museum of zoology, where the famous sign saying 'TOO THE WHALE' is placed (good times) and went to see all the work, there were many adult categories (very good stuff there) and the children (mee yay still young) and the younger ones category was won by samuel weinberger! that means nothing to you, but it does to me, BECAUSE he's the son of one of the other photography teachers at my sixth form.. does mary have a webby... *searches for mary* no i dont think so (sorry mary if you do actually have a website) *is blind* anyway why dont i just get to the point..?*rambles to self*
AND THEN the exciting part.. the prize giving hehehhe, and i won a book and a dvd and £20 worth of jessops vouchers *feels special* which was awesome
heres a photo of all that jazz :D
and the photograph is going on display around certain fens in cambridgeshire, not sure which
AND I WAS IN THE PAPER *parties*
the next competition wow even better, was a cambridge water company (they like to encourage people to think about water you know) and i entered 3 of my best landscape sunsets at earith sluice (doesnt sound to great BUT you are wrong yay)

I went to the exhbition evening which i won my age category for! which was at the michael house centre in Cambridge (rather nice) and got to see all the work and winners etc, and i won £60 worth of jessops vouchers (yay jessops) new filters coming my way! and had my photograph taken by the cambridge evening news man and again in the paper YAY, so i thought.. that was the end of that (but no no i was wrong) one of the adult winners had dropped out of the tour with the photographer tom mackie (quite famous i think:P) which is what they one, and i got offered a place, so i won the money annd the tour how cool is that, so anyway wow i should put some full stops there we go > . < *breathing time*
So the tour with.. how many other people.. that wedding guy.. 1, the professional 2, the hobby guy 3 and the teacher 4 AND MEEEE so five of us and tom mackie, personal tuition from a famous photographer (that is pretty damn cool) we went to houghton mill, all expenses paid taxi service and what not and set up our tripods, and rented a CANOE, oh such fun and moved it around in the foreground, the weather/light was FANTASTIC, bloody freezing but great light, and he taught us all about filters and well too much else to repeat now, and then went to the botanic gardens for lunch yum and then photographed the gardens, it was getting slightly dark by then so we did close up shots and learnt techniques (by that time i was freezing my but off) so it was nice to have a warm cup of tea before heading home saying farewell to the men and the famous photography (YAY) the day was fantastic, the cambridge evening news man came again to the gardens and i should have been in the paper again (thats 3 times now guys:o) cept i havnt got the paper.. for a while now, so i bet ive missed it :( *bad times*

well anyway so that is THAT with the competitions so far (how awesome is that!)

My friend got my a wedding commission and told them that i had won awards (yeah so how does that make me really good PRESSUREEE)
which scared the hell out of me, so i got some tips and tried my best, it was really dark though so quite alot were too dark/blurry LUCKILY photoshop likes me so i managed to get some good shots in the end and the couple were pleased *feels talented* and i got payed YAY

The last thing i can think of at this precise moment about my photography life is FALMOUTH UNI
wowwwwwwwww
well i went down to cornwall the beautiful place to see how good the university was there.. well let me tell you it was amazing. the location was amazing the campus was more like a country lane and the photography department was like the size of the grafton centre, they have 3 massive studios, 3 massive darkrooms, digital suites etc etc WOW. BUT the course i want to do (BA HONOURS) has 30 places thats right 30 places and they get like over 500 applicants!!!!!! *hums death chant* so im quite worried now, i really really like it there, i dont like anywhere else, well i havnt really looked anywhere else to be fair (hehe) but WOW yes please falmouth, so im hoping and praying and hoping and wishing *sings song from some film about a wedding*

well guys thats it atm, im sure i can ramble on to you about something else, but dont worry i wont
